ABOUT SREI

The 2025 Summer Research Enrichment Internship (SREI) is a free research program catered to High School students interested in learning about the fundamentals of research. No previous research experience is necessary. The internship runs for 5 weeks from June 23rd to July 24th, and consists of two weekly meetings (MTh) from 4-5:30 PM where students are exposed to various aspects of research through online meetings, interactive workshops, and virtual talks hosted by distinguished UCI researchers and faculty. At the completion of the program, students are expected to compose their very own research proposal based on their interests, and present their research findings at our annual SREI Symposium. In addition, students can request a letter of recommendation from our adviser and a Certificate of Completion. Students interested in applying should visit our application page or email officialsrei@gmail.com for more information.

Hello SREI Students,

My name is Jessica Shi and I am a medical student at Boston University School of Medicine. During my 5 years as a UCI Anteater, I had the privilege of engaging with both the UCI campus and the surrounding communities through research.  In addition to SREI, I conducted research on Alzheimer's and diabetes at the LaFerla neurobiology and behavior laboratory, served as the lab manager for Dr. Vo's Family Medicine Clinical Research lab, and as head of the Research Committee of the UCI Student-Run Free Clinic Project. As you can tell, research is a passion of mine!

I founded SREI as a means to inspire and engage future generations of researchers. Although I recognize that not all students embark on research because they want to pursue a research career, I found that research can be utilized as a means to impart important life skills and can be both a gratifying and empowering experience. I feel honored to have the opportunity to foster intellectual curiosity and academic self-exploration in our students through SREI. I look forward to witnessing the educational and personal growth of each and every one of our students.

Warmly,

Jessica Shi
